How Are You Peeling? Foods with Moods

This is a comic and clever picture book for 3-5 year olds, and a great introduction to talking about a wide range of emotions with young children. With the help of a knife and a few black-eyed peas, the authors have turned some quirkily shaped food - from red peppers and oranges to radishes and kiwi fruit - into emotionally engaging characters. Meet a lonely lemon, a shy melon, an insecure spring onion and a jealous tomato. The photographs are great, light-hearted, and every page can start a conversation about when you have ever felt like that, or discussing what the different expressions of the fruit and veg can mean. At the end the authors explain how they construct the characters, so this can lead to a great afternoon at the kitchen table your own emotions.
