If You Sit Very Still
Marian's sister Lucy was murdered by Fred West and all she and her family knew was that Lucy had disappeared, never came home one evening. The remains were not found for years. Marian's book describes her own journey with grief, loss, guilt, forgiveness and resolution. Although not so harrowing, my brother was killed in a car crash ten years ago and this book helped me to reflect on my own loss and grief and the very complex feelings that emerge. The book is beautifully written and engaging and is written in a way that draws you into her life experience - she shows us not just tells us. The book would appeal to anyone dealing with loss and to anyone helping others to come to terms with crime - both the perpetrators as well as the victims, or those training as counsellors. It does not shirk from the dark of this - how could you - and as such helps us to dig into the shadow not just reach for the light.
