Lost and Found
Submitted 5 years 11 months ago by Kate Raworth.
A penguin turns up on a boy's doorstep, looking sad. Thinking it must be lost, the boy takes the penguin back to the South Pole - only to realise that it wasn't lost, it was lonely. In few words, and with much humour, this book beautifully conveys the moment the boy realises what the penguin is actually feeling - and that realisation opens up a heartfelt reunion of two friends. We get to witness the boy's emerging ability to empathise, and we see what a difference that it makes.
The book has been adapted into a gripping and poetic film - I recommend it just as highly.

Brilliant
Lost and Found works as a great empathy children's book due to the simplicity and clarity of the moment when the boy realises that the penguin is actually lonely. Makes me think I should talk to my kids (who love this book) about that particular moment.
Also a lovely short film
This story is brilliant in its simplicity, but the themes of friendship and empathy are profound; how much do we try to understand the "strangers" that appear in our lives?
The book has also benn made into a lovley short film (about 30 minutes, I think)
