Okay for Now

Ever wonder why that kid in your class is such a trouble maker? Maybe not. Maybe we all should wonder why he/she chooses to act the he/she does. Doug's story gives teachers and students in grades 5-8 alike encouragement to think about the underlying causes of misbehavior at school and what we can all do to help see the best in everyone. It will make you think about that "trouble maker" as a real person with talents, strengths, and possibly, very difficult challenges.

Fourteen-year-old Doug Swieteck faces many challenges, including an abusive father, a brother traumatized by Vietnam, suspicious teachers and police officers, and isolation in a new town, but when he meets a girl known as Lil Spicer, he develops a close relationship with her and finds a safe place at the local library (description for our Library Catalog).
