Some Dogs Do
On his way to school one day, Sid the dog discovers he can fly. When he excitedly tells his classmates what he just did, they mock him, and his teacher scolds him for lying. Put on the spot to prove his ability, Sid falls flat on his face. We empathise hugely with Sid and feel his humiliation in front of tough classmates (with overtones of bullying in their response). And we can't help but wonder ourselves whether he did imagine flying after all. But that evening his dad lets Sid in on a fantastic secret, in an ultimate celebration of believing in yourself. It's a great picture book for reading aloud, with memorable rhymes. Well suited for kids aged 3-6 but a humourous way to be inspired at any age. Here is a short video of it being read aloud.
