The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Submitted 5 years 8 months ago by liz Charalambous.
Written by the editor of Elle magazine following a severe, incapacitating stroke who wrote this book letter by letter with his speech therapist. It describes his experience of being in hospital, poor communication of healthcare staff & being objectified. Written eloquently about coming to terms with loss of his previous life and learning to live in a new way it is a 'must read' for anyone considering a caring profession. I defy anyone to read this and not feel moved yet empowered to change towards holistic, person-centred practice.

Don't forget the film
The book is extraordinary. But don't forget the film, which is also superb. There's a good review of it at The Empathy Library: http://empathylibrary.com/video/the-diving-bell-and-the-butterfly-0
A must read....
A story of bravery and courage, of commitment and the will to continue to live. It was a book that teaches us about change. A valuable and important read.
