Very funky short video on the impact of digital culture on the possibilities for building empathic relationships. Quoting the words of the social scientist Sherry Turkle (author of a great book on digital culture called Alone Together) it makes the argument that the online world is good at creating connection but not conversation. In other words, it is bringing us into a web of superficial contact with others, rather than deep relationships. And from my point of view, profound, face-to-face conversation is one of the best ways to develop empathy, especially with strangers. Overall, this video is a warning to all those whose relationships are mediated by screens and electronic devicies.
