Facing Fear

The film, the short documentary Facing Fear, was nominated for an Academy Award in 2014. It tells the story of Matthew Boger, who was thrown out of his home as a teenager for being gay. While living on the streets, he narrowly survived a beating by a group of neo-Nazi skinheads. Twenty-five years later, he crossed paths with a former skinhead, Tim Zaal--and realized that Zaal was one of his attackers.

Facing Fear tells the powerful story of how the two men forged an unlikely friendship, fueled by Boger's decision to forgive Zaal. Below is the film's trailer; beneath it is an interview with Boger, Zaal, and Facing Fear's director, Jason Cohen.
