The Railway Man

This film is based on the autobiography of Eric Lomax, a railway enthusiast who becomes a British prisoner of war captured by the Japanese in Singapore.   The film follows him and his fellow captives, both during their time of captivity as they are forced to work building the Thai-Burma Railway, and in the aftermath of the war as they attempt to rebuild their lives in postwar Britain.

The film not only demonstrates the futile horror of war and its consequences on individuals, it is also utterly humbling.  It demonstrates the true power of empathy and redemption and, I believe, will stay with me forever.
